Midcentury Apartment
Few kitchens come much smaller than this so ingenious solutions had to be found to meet the storage needs of three young professionals. The brief was to reinstate the functional, brutalist nature of the infamous Chamberlin, Powell and Bon estate, working within the Grade II* Listed constraints whilst meeting modern day living requirements.
The lasting feeling is that one is unmistakably in a midcentury kitchen, but a midcentury kitchen that has moved with the times and is all the better for it.
The highest levels of craftsmanship and collaboration were required to create an expansive worktop, sink and splashback, shaped, folded and welded as a single piece of stainless steel. The brushed, unbroken finish allows for a swift, easy clean and removes all unnecessary clutter. The metallic feature sink sits harmoniously within the utilitarian feel of the original estate.
In contrast, beautiful iroko cabinetry offers a touch of luxury and references the listed timber windows and features used throughout the estate.. Recessed pull handles, adjustable drawers and metal roller shutters all help maximise the space available and hide away the building services as well as day-to-day essentials to create a minimalist kitchen.
